Lawrence E. Smith, 86, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at Brookhaven Manor on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. A native of Scott County, he was the son of the late Edd H. and Margaret Gray Smith. He retired from the Kingsport Foundry after 46 years of service. Lawrence was a 50 year member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688, a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple. He was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jean Goodman Smith, two sisters, Edna E. Poston and Juanita Denton Brown.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Jean Anne Greene and husband, Bryan of Kingsport; two granddaughters, Hannah and Molly Greene of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Jessie Young of Surgoinsville; his buddy, Tootsie; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff of Baysmont and Brookhaven for their care and support.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12-2:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm by Masonic Lodge #688. The funeral service will follow with Rev. J. Russell Taylor officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
