Lawrence Hurbert Smith

Lawrence Hurbert "Bud" Smith, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at 8:27 p.m. to go home and be with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Scott County, Virginia, and lived in Kingsport all of his life. He retired from Don Hill Pontiac. He served in the Gate City National Guard and Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence L. and Clara V. Smith, and four sisters, Inima Chapman, Lorretta Ash, Jeanetta Swain, and Freddie Page.

He is survived by two daughters, Anita Hinkle and husband Ricky, of FL; Candy Bernard and husband Scottie, of Kingsport; two sons, Marty Smith and wife Rochelle and ex-wife Diana Smith, of Kingsport, and special and beloved son of his life, Kyle Lee Smith; six grandsons, Bradley David Adkins, Nickolus Allen Smith, Dustin Greer, Ross Allen Smith, Christopher Allen Smith, and Wesley Michael Smith; two granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Smith and Alisha Michelle Smith; two great granddaughters, Mya Hinkle Grasshopper and Makayla Hinkle Cricket; four brothers, Bill, Scott, Johnny, and Rev. Jim Smith; three sisters, Beulah, Merriyl, and Mable; many nephews and nieces whom he dearly loved; and special friends, Coondog Bud, and Poodle Sam.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport. Services will be conducted Thursday at 1 pm. at the funeral home, with Pastor Wrightly Salling officiating. Burial will follow at Lawson Confederate Cemetery in Gate City, Virginia.
