I Corrinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed.
Lawrence Clayton Wheatley, 91, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 21, 2011 at his home, with his family by his side after an extended battle with Alzheimer's and failing health problems.
Mr. Wheatley was born in Formost, Alberta Canada. His family moved to the United States where he grew up a native of Dungannon, Virginia. Later, he met and married his wife, Maude Stewart. After a Navy enlistment and several jobs in the restaurant business, he decided to have his own restaurant. He owned and operated the Lynn Garden Restaurant for over 50 years.
He was a member of Ketron Memorial Methodist Church, was active in the Lynn Garden Optimist Club, and a friend to all who passed his way.
Lawrence was well known for his wonderful food and especially his homemade pies and rolls. People came from far and near to enjoy his delicious food. He will be missed by all of us and all his friends.
Mr. Wheatley was preceded in death by his parents, Milburn and Rebecca Wood Wheatley; three sisters, Virginia Harrison, Dorothy Wheatley and Mae Etta Bowman; four brothers, Lavern Wheatley, Henry Wheatley, Stewart Wheatley, infants Jean and John Wheatley.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Marie Stewart Wheatley; one daughter, Sharyl Gott and husband Gerald; one son, Roger Lee Wheatley and wife Traci, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Jerry Gott, Steven Gott, Roger Lee Wheatley, Jr., and Cheronna Matney; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Gott, Madison Gott, Clayton Gott, Ryan Erwin, Taylor Wheatley, Ethan Wheatley and Kristen Matney; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm, Rev. Roger Wheatley, Elder Hugh Allen Hale, Rev. Rev. Gary Jaster and Sister Lori Ann Hale officiating.
Graveside services will be on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
