Leatrice Austin Prescott

Leatrice Austin Prescott, 81, died on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Born May 4, 1933 in Jenkin Jones, WV, she was the daughter of Ford and Bessie Austin. Leatrice lived in Jewell Ridge, VA, Ft. Pierce, FL and Palm Bay, FL before moving to Kingsport with her family in 1968.

Leatrice was a teacher for 41 years, 27 of those years as a teacher and principal at Miller Perry Elementary School. She taught for 14 years in Virginia and Florida before coming to Sullivan County. Leatrice started out teaching first grade and after four years became the principal, where she remained for the next 23 years. She adored the children and cherished the many friendships with faculty and staff. Leatrice had been a resident of Brookdale @ Rock Springs for the last 3 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gabe Prescott, brother, Roy Austin and granddaughter, Lindsey Leigh Campbell.

Leatrice is survived by daughter, Cindy and husband Mike Campbell; son, Mike and wife, Ann Prescott; granddaughters, Megan and husband, Andrew Arrington, and Katie Campbell; grandson, Nicholas Prescott; great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Luke Arrington; brother, Jerry and wife, Laura Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The family will receive friends following the service.
