Harold "Lee" McKinney, 45, of Kingsport passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, September 21, 2008. Lee was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on October 23, 1962.
Lee was loved deeply by his family and friends, and was one who never met a stranger. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, and will be truly missed by his family, his friends, and all those whose lives he had touched.
Lee graduated from Sullivan Central High School where he played football, and he attended the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He enjoyed travel and resided in such places as California, Costa Rica, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Along the way, and afterwards, Lee made numerous lasting friends. He successfully launched his dream in opening his restaurant, "The Shack". He was also an active partner with his brother, John, in McKinney Asset Management.
He was a favorite of young and old alike, with a pleasant personality. Those who were fortunate enough to know him realized how easy it was to be his friend and to love him.
Preceding him in death were his father, Tom McKinney; his paternal grandparents, Harold and Alberta Morrison; his maternal grandparents, Thomas Lee and Louise Watts; and step-grandfather, Herbert Craig.
He is survived by his mother, Anna Marie McKinney, Knoxville; his brother, John McKinney and wife Nooshin, and nephews Nicholas and Brandon, Atlanta, GA; his sister, Angela McKinney- Ginsberg and husband Maury, and nephews Benjamin and Wolfe Louis, South Orange, NJ. Also surviving are an aunt, Jill Williams and husband Henry, and cousins Brent and Brooke; and aunt, Bobbie Hutchins and husband Jim and cousins, Mary Lou and LeAnne; an uncle, Sim McKinney and wife Connie, and cousin Tara; an uncle, Harry McKinney and wife Lee Ann, and cousin Matt.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, with eulogy provided by family and friends. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service. A celebration of Lee's life will be held at The Shack Barbecue and Grill in Colonial Heights at 4 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
