Lee M. "L.M." White, age 85, Kingsport, passed away on February 15, 2014, at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, TN, after a brief illness.
He was born in Kingsport, TN, on September 15, 1928. He was a member of Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church. He retired from Smith Mechanical Contractors at age 65 and continued to work and help the people in his community.
Lee proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a War World II veteran. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and aboard the USS New Jersey.
He was a member of the Kingsport Moose Lodge 972 for the past 39 years. He also served in the Legion for 33 years.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Zinie White; his sister, Eula Mae; his brothers, Carson White, Ray White, and Gus White, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Watson White; three children, Anthony White and wife Nancy, Tim White (Buck) and special friend Donna Lemons, Michelle Davis and husband Mark; four grandchildren, John White and wife Lori, Jenny Murray and husband John, David White, and Madison Davis; sister, Mary Louise Oaks, brother, Bill White, sister-in-law, Wanda Watson; and several special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special and loving friends, Jim and Evelyn Qualls and Jim and Jennella Oliver.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Hamlett- Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Marshall Steinle and Rev. Leroy Davis officiating. Music will be provided by the Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church Choir and accompanist Patsy Pilgrim.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, with Rev. David Foster officiating at East Lawn Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by The American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Anthony White, Tim White, John White, Mark Davis, Carl Oaks, and John Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be David White, Jim Qualls, and Jim Oliver.
The family would like to issue a special thanks to the excellent staff and care at Indian Path Medical Center.
