Leland Anglea Davis, born December 11, 1922, died peacefully at his home on January 30, 2016 surrounded by family. Lee married Kingsport native, Marilyn Moore, known for her lifelong musical contributions as an accomplished pianist and teacher, 64 years ago. They raised four children, Melinda Davis, twins Laura Lee Davis and Nancy Hampson, and Vic Davis of Vic Davis Construction.
He enjoyed life to the fullest, often expressing his pride in his family, and loved Kingsport. From this union, family grew to 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, so far!
Lee served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, the eye-donor program with The Lion's Club and chose Grandfather Home among others to provide for children in need.
He served in WWII as a B-24 pilot earning two of the highest honors, the Silver Star for Valor and The Distinguished Flying Cross, having flown 53 missions in the 449th Flying Horseman of the Army Air Corps. His skill and courage enabled him to save his entire crew.
Lee will be remembered for his integrity, his million dollar smile, his generosity to others, and his amazing sense of humor!
He is also survived by one brother, Jack Davis.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle and Dr. Joseph Sutherland. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors given by American Legion Post 3/265.
