Lena Ann Hinson Smith

Lena Ann Hinson Smith, 79, of Mt. Carmel, joined her family in Heaven on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, following a lengthy illness. A native of Speers Ferry, Virginia, Lena lived in the Church Hill area most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Adra Davis Hinson. Lena enjoyed cooking for her family, reading, was a beloved mom, granny, great-grandma, sister and friend. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Smith; 2 sons, Gary Lynn Smith and Ricky Gene Smith; 2 daughters, Anna Marie Funkhouser and Velma Sue Lyon; grandson, Ernest Timothy Marshall; brother, Burl G. Hinson; 3 sisters, Phyllis L. Haga, Emogene Montgomery and Sylvia Hinson; and 2 sons-in-law, James Edward Mullins and Danny Marshall.

Lena is survived by 3 daughters, Kathilene Maschke and husband George, Cynthia Ann Mullins and Joy Lee Cox; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Helen Morelock and husband Kermit, Minnie Davis and husband Jesse, Carol Crawford and husband Garry, Judy Jackson and Kathy O. Hinson; brother, Doug Hinson and wife Janie; 3 sons-in-law, Jeff Lyon, Barry Tomlinson and Wayne Funkhouser; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Mike Stout officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 am at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Arthur Harlan officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Hinson, Kevin Hinson, Jessie Montgomery, Michael Rhoton, Alan Tomlinson and Alec Tomlinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Tomlinson, Travis Funkhouser, Scott Hutchins, Tony Hutchins and Elijah Hollar.
