Leo J. Fix, age 81, passed away peacefully with her family in attendance after a brief illness on August, 30, 2011 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Murfreesboro, TN. She was born on April 1, 1930 in Marion, N.C. the daughter of W.G. and Mary Jane Jarrett. She attended Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On May 31, 1952 she married Ted P. Fix II, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They were residents of Kingsport, TN for 58 years before moving to Murfreesboro in August 2011.
Leo taught kindergarten for several years at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and volunteered as a cook for Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Kingsport, TN, for many years. She was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved the annual Jarrett family reunions at Ocean Isle Beach, NC, for more than twenty years. She was a member of several bridge clubs, enjoyed golfing, cooking, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruth Deyton and Marie Gibbs, and brothers Hoyt Jarrett, Claude Jarrett, and Guy Jarrett.
In addition to her husband, Leo is survived by her four children - Jane Gary Jones of Versailles, KY, Ted P. Carol Fix III of Hannibal, MO, Tom Kathy Fix of Murfreesboro, TN, and Melinda Ray Grigsby of Nashville, TN, nine grandchildren - Misty Jones, Sarah Nicholas Mitchum, T. Paul Anna Fix IV, Christy Willie Tuter, Karyn Fix, Kevin Fix, Jonathan Grigsby, Bryan Grigsby, and Kathryn Steven Preston, and one great granddaughter, McKenna Rose Tuter. She is also survived by two sisters, Esteen Crowder of Charlotte, NC, Susan B.J. Johnson of Wilmington, NC, and one brother, Douglas Iris Jarrett, of Raleigh, NC.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Kingsport, TN on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at 11:00 am, with a celebration of her life to follow in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Kingsport, TN.
