Leona E. Hite, 88, Kingsport, died Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Indian Path Medical Center.

She was a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church for over 50 years and loved quilting, spending time with her family, and going to the beach with her sisters.


Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Orville W. Hite; her parents, John and Linnie Slaughter; brothers, Gordon, Woody, and Allen Slaughter; and sisters, Wanda Sparger and Amelia Krill Phipps.

Surviving are three children, Shirley Moore and husband Ralph, J. Fred Hite and wife Brenda, and Peggy Hughes and husband John, all of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Sandra Archer and husband Gary, Teresa Gray and husband Steve, Pam Hite Zaruba and husband Terry, Gail Hite and husband Todd, Lesia Owens and husband Tommy, Rod Hite and wife Linda, and Lori Hammond and husband Randy; two sisters, Nancy Tester, Bristol, TN, and Maxie Cox, Kingsport; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, the David Hall family and Virginia Kistner.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joseph Manis officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
