Lester Jennings, 91, of Kingsport, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015, at NHC Healthcare following a brief illness.
Born in Scott County, VA, on May 27, 1924, a son of the late Samuel Asbury and Mattie Lee (Bray) Jennings, he had resided in this area his entire life. He graduated from Rye Cove High School in 1942. Lester was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War having served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1986 following over forty years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Margie Moody Jennings; sisters, Edith Cox, Dorothy Jennings, Thelma Thomas, baby brother, Ralph Jennings; half-sisters, Ada Jennings and Ora Jennings; and half-brothers, Dewey Jennings and Midas Jennings.
Lester is survived by his son Dr. Gregory Jennings of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Nell Miller and husband, Pastor Earl Miller, of Kingsport; and nephews, Anthony Cox, Darrell Cox, Dennis Cox, and Michael Miller.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park with flag presentation by The American Legion. Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at Hamlett-Dobson by 10:15 a.m. Friday and then proceed to the cemetery.
