Letitia Carruth Stone, of Kingsport, died at "The Oaks" at 9:25 am Wednesday, February 23, 2011 one day following her 97th birthday.
She was born in Holyoke, MA and grew up in Chillicothe, OH. She came to Kingsport in 1943. After working for several years in the gift department of J. Fred Johnson department store, Mrs. Stone worked as a proofreader with Kingsport Press for more than 25 years. Following retirement she enjoyed traveling, visiting with family, and her greatest passion-reading-until her eyesight failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H.P. Carruth and Letitia McManus Carruth; step-mother Leona Carruth; sister Eleanor Bullock; brothers, H.P. Carruth, Jr., Frank Carruth, Bob Carruth and Tom Carruth.
Survivors include two daughters, Lee Neely Bockman and husband, Carl, of Kingsport, Cristina Jayne and husband, George, of Chillicothe, OH; three grandchildren, Cathy Hall and husband, Dwane, George Jayne and wife, Lisa, Henry Neely and wife, Kay; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A family service will be held at "The Oaks" with inurnment at a later date in Chillicothe, OH.
