Lewis Walker Ammons, 61, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep on March 13, 2024, at his home in Fort Worth, Texas.
A native of Kingsport, Tennessee, he attended Dobyns-Bennett high school before attending Oxford College of Emory University and graduating from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
After graduating from Georgia State, Lewis moved to Tyler, Texas working in sales. In 1989 he developed kidney disease and received his first kidney transplant in Houston in 1988. He ultimately moved to Fort Worth, where he bought a home and lived until his death.
He worked with a couple of different companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. His last job was with Wash where we truly learned that there are still employers who care about their employees. He loved working with all of the young people at Wash and their love back towards him.
What a life well lived and the lessons of perseverance he leaves with us all are inspiring.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations and contributions be made in Lewis’s name to FBSUMC (First Broad Street United Methodist Church) music fund and/or the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County of Fort Worth Texas (UGM-TC).
A celebration of Lewis’ life will be held October 4, 2024, at 2:00pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
