Lila Mowell Bernard, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday December 17, 2006 at Brookhaven Manor surrounded by her family.
Born July 15, 1921, she was a lifetime resident of Sullivan County. Lila, the oldest of six children, was the daughter of the late James Blaine and Carrie Dykes Mowell.
She was an active member of the Women of the Moose during the seventies and eighties.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Roy Bernard in 1989; son, Phillip in 1992; and a sister, Wanda Whetsel in 1981.
Surviving are her son, Elmer Bernard and his wife, Della, of Kingsport; two daughters, Barbara Sue Oliver, of Fairfax, VA, and Sandy Colley and husband, Ken, of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Patricia Ezzell, Sam, Tim, and Sarah Oliver, and Josh and Zoey Colley; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Conkin, of Kingsport, and Dorothy Barrett, of Rock Island, IL; two brothers, Jimmy Mowell and Roy Mowell, both of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, or anytime at her residence.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Elder Oscar Irvin officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Sam Oliver, Tim Oliver, Josh Colley, Tim Ezzell, Dallas Bernard, and Bud Droke.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one?s choice.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Brookhaven Manor and Hospice staff for all the special care they gave Lila.
