KINGSPORT ? Lily ?Bill? Dolvin Marsh, Kingsport, died Friday Jan. 12, 2007 after several years of declining health.
She and her twin sister Clifford Cliff, who predeceased her, were born in Greene County, Ga., on March 29, 1911. As a child she was given the nickname ?Bill? by her five brothers. One of ten children, she graduated from Tubman High School in Augusta, Ga., and earned a degree from the University of North Carolina Woman?s College at Greensboro, N.C. in 1931.
She taught school in Bryson City N.C. where she met Charles K. Marsh. They were married in 1936. She and her husband moved to Kingsport that same year when he became city engineer, and eventually city manager.
Bill lived in Kingsport for most of 70-years. A life long Presbyterian, she had been an active member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church since 1945.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Kendrick Marsh, Jr. and Edward Dolvin Marsh, both of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Katherine Dolvin Marsh, Rebecca Marsh Morelock and Jennifer Marsh Reid; and three great granddaughters, Elizabeth Walker Reid, Allison Mackenzie Reid and Madilyn Rose Morelock.
She worked in quiet ways in her church and in the community at large throughout her life.
A family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 15, 2007, at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
Memorials may be made to Holston Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, Waverly Road Presbyterian Church or Bethany Presbyterian Church.
