Lily Howell Overbey

Lily Howell Overbey, 93, died on Friday, December 6, 2013, at James H. and Cecile C. Quillen Rehabilitation Center. She died from injuries from a fall she suffered during late November. She attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and East Tennessee State University. She was an avid reader, but most of her concerns surrounded her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had lived the last decade with her daughter and son-in-law, Fern and Donald Hilton.

Her husband, Jones Overbey, died in 1980, and two daughters, Shelby and Ava, died in infancy. Her beloved daughter-in-law, Dr. Vera Wilcox Overbey, recently passed away.

She was the daughter of Walter and Leota DeFriece Howell, and the granddaughter of Harding and Catherine Wolfe DeFriece and John and Jane Presley Howell.

She is survived by one daughter, Fern Overbey Hilton, and her husband Donald L. Hilton. She is further survived by two sons, Jones H. (Jack) Overbey and William H. (Bill) Overbay and his wife Elsie. She is survived by Marcus and Sabrina Overbay (children of Bill); Jacqui Overbey Hart and Dr. Daniel Overbey (children of Jack); and Dr. Wesley V. Hilton and Quentin D. Hilton (sons of Donald and Fern). She is survived by great-grandsons Andrew, Benjamin, and Weldon Hilton; Samuel, Alex, and Adam Overbay; A.J. and Jackson Overbey; and Pearson Hart; and great-granddaughter Cameron Hart.

Most of her large family of brothers and sisters have died over the years, but she is survived by one sister, Dorothy (Dottie) Howell Tally, and one brother, James (Jimmy). She is also survived by nieces who stayed close to her to the end: Dr. Jill Tally-Horne and Barbara King.

She will be buried during a private service on Monday, December 9, 2013. More than anything else, she would have liked her friends and family to have a peaceful and enjoyable holy season.

In lieu of flowers, she would have preferred that donations be made to the Overbey-Hilton Fund for the Preservation of Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come Drama, P. O. Box 1482,255 Amphitheater Road, Jenkins, KY, 41537.
