Linda White Marcum, 76, of Kingsport, died peacefully Tuesday morning, August 09, 2016, at her home, after a battle with heart disease. Born in Benham, KY, she was raised in Lynch, KY before moving to Kingsport when she was 10 years of age. Linda was a graduate of Lynn View High School and was Valedictorian of her Junior Class when her future husband, Carl, was Valedictorian of his Senior Class. They were high school sweethearts and married in 1959. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Although Linda's primary devotion was to her family, when she was younger she was involved in Kingsport Women's Symphony, several social clubs, and bible studies. In later years Linda enjoyed their family farm in Nickelsville, VA where she enjoyed flower gardening. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed large family gatherings. Linda was an active member of Vermont United Methodist Church, later moving membership to First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Most importantly, Linda was a devout christian and studied the Bible extensively.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl N. Marcum; sister, Mitzi White; brother, Gene White; and parents, Bernis 'Doc' and Thelma White.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Gina Marcum Pinney and husband, Fred of Kingsport; son, Dr. Greg Marcum and wife, Laura of Gate City, VA; 4 grandchildren, Colton Marcum and wife, Catherine, Hannah Blackwell and husband, Brad, Spencer Pinney and Justice Pinney; 3 great-grandchildren, Charlsie Marcum, Colton Marcum, II and Buford 'Bo' Blackwell; brother, Ken White of Murfreesboro; sister, Judy Castle and husband, Reggie of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Judy White of Knoxville; sister-in-law Thelma Smith and husband Wesley of Kingsport, and several nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service will be held on Friday at 4:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Green and Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
