Lisa Marie Jones of Grand Bay, AL, died on January 3, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born on May 14, 1958, in Memphis, TN, Lisa grew up in Kingsport, TN, where she was an accomplished equestrian. She showed American Saddlebred horses throughout the Southeast. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett HS in 1976 and then Emory University in 1980, with a bachelor’s degree in geology. Afterward, she moved to Hawaii to work on her masters in geology.
Later she lived in Denver, CO, and San Diego, CA where she worked in the hospitality industry before moving back to the Southeast. She pursued a Master of Science degree in Biology from East Tennessee State University. In 1998 Lisa began working for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Pascagoula, MS, where she conducted research on dogfish shark populations in the Gulf of Mexico and along the East Coast. She retired from there after 23 years.
While living in Alabama Lisa became involved in agility training and was active in that community for many years. She leaves behind her beloved Aussies, Aydan and Bree. She joins Puppy, Rontu, Cinnie, Regan, and Keir as well as many cats and horses at the Rainbow Bridge.
She is survived by her brother, Malcolm Timothy Jones, of Kingsport, TN, and her sister, Alice Jones, of Jasper, TN.
