Lloyd D. Hicks, 84, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born November 12, 1928, he was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. Lloyd was an honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War and retired from the Kingsport Press. He was a member of Arcadia United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Georgianna Hicks; two infant siblings; brother, Joseph D. Hicks; sister, Shirley Hicks; and grandson, Aaron W. Roberts.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Gray Hicks; children, Cathy Hicks Huddle and husband, Larry of Kingsport, Dianna Hicks Roberts and husband, Luther of Abingdon, VA, Gary Hicks and wife, Judi, Sandra Hicks Branham and husband, Doug of Louisville, KY, and Michael Hicks of Kingsport; grandchildren, Melissa Huddle Ward, Natalie Huddle, David Roberts and Abbygail Branham; great-grandchildren, Steven K. and Alyssa Ward; sisters, Jean Hicks Fulkerson, Elizabeth Hicks Gibson and Carolyn Hicks Allen; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. David Poore, Rev. Luther Roberts, Rev. William Gibson and Rev. Vickie Fulkerson Carter officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 12:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Honorary pallbearers, Richard Nottingham, Bill Bentley, Bud Sisk, David Ring, H.L. Williams, Charles Newland and Bob McKenzie.
