Lois Jane Barr Everhart, 83, of Kingsport, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010, at her home after a lengthy illness. She is now at home with her Lord and loved ones who have gone before her.
Lois was born Feb. 12, 1927, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of the late Fred D. Barr and Fern Arter Barr. She had resided in Kingsport since 1946. Lois had worked at Oakwood Hardware, Pot-o-Gold, and helped her husband sew at his tailor shop.
Lois was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved people and had many precious friends. Lois never met a stranger. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Cherokee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Walker; a sister, Betty Chapman and her husband, Ralph; a brother, Bill Barr and his widow, Juanita Barr Wagner; and sister-in-law, Eileen Hobbs.
She is survived by her husband, Grover C. Everhart, of Kingsport; three daughters, Karen Walker, of Knoxville, Kathy McDavid and Jane Everhart, both of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Brian Walker and wife, Kellie, Stephanie McDavid, Nathan McDavid and Nikki Gibson; three great-grandchildren, Aidan Walker, Natalie Walker, and Brandon Walker; brothers-in-law, Glenn Everhart and wife, Ruth, and Paul Hobbs; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Marge Burmeister, Patti Jo Dixon, Nora Gibson, Gladys Hyder, Marie Nelms, Ann Thomas, and "Little Debbie" Woods.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Rev. Kaye Florence and Bill Peters officiating. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
