Lois Mitchell Shaffer, age 82, died Tuesday, March 16 at Wexford House. She was born April 29, 1927 to Frank and Dora Chase Mitchell.
She attended Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church.
Lois graduated from Holston High School and was employed at Kingsport Press, Holston Valley Medical Center, and worked for several physicians in the Kingsport area. She also worked in health care in Indiana, retiring from the county home in Lynn, Indiana. Lois enjoyed working in her flowers, feeding her family and friends, embroidery and quilting. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Haskell, Howard and Leonard Mitchell and sisters Pauline and Juanita Zimmerman.
She is survived by husband, William Bill Shaffer of Lynn, Indiana; son Everett L. Eddie Light and wife, Sallie, of Omaha, Nebraska; and daughter Jo Rita McMurray and husband, Keith, of Kingsport. She is also survived by step-children, Scott Shaffer, Jackie Retter Randy, Steve Shaffer, Terrie Gene Davis, Sherry Shaffer and Julie Burroughs; 12 grandchildren and step-¬grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and life-long friend, Louella Barbour.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Pond Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Zimmerman, Terry Mitchell, Marshall Conkin, and Clayton Cradic. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Mitchell and Norman Mitchell.
