Iola Lorene Horne Crawford, 80, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 12, 2010, in Kingsport.
She was born on February 15, 1929, in Castlewood, VA, and was retired from Nettie Lee's Ladies Shop in Kingsport. She was also employed by Mead Paper and Mason Dixon during her career, but spent the majority of her life at home with her family. Lorene was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Church Hill, TN, where she was a loving part of the Helping Hands Sunday School Class. She loved her Lord, her Church, and her family. Lorene also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and her puppies.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph D. Crawford, Sr.; her parents: William Pat and Jeanette "Nettie" King Horne, brothers: Jay, Fred "Buford", Lincoln, Jimmy and Kenneth Horne; as well as sisters: Earle Clark, Merle Crabtree, and Edna Ewald.
Survivors include her three children: Joseph D. Crawford, Jr. of Church Hill, Steve Crawford and wife, Melissa of Kingsport, and Jon Crawford and wife, Shannon of Mooresville, NC; four grandchildren: granddaughter Stephanie Christiansen and husband Randy of Gray, grandsons Joshua Alley, Tyler and Brochton Crawford of Mooresville, NC. She is also survived by brother Pat Horne of Nickelsville, VA, along with several nieces and nephews that she loved deeply.
The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church in Church Hill, TN, followed by a service to celebrate her life with Pastor Gary Gerhardt officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her son Joe Crawford, O.L. Horne, Greg Horne, Wayne Horne, Larry Horne, and Danny Horne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 847; Church Hill, TN 37642, in honor of Lorene Crawford.
