Louise Ammons

Louise Ammons, 81, of Kingsport, died at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, after a brief illness. Born in Eatonton, GA, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She played her first tune on the piano around age 5. Not only could she read music and play, she could also play by ear and had relative pitch (perfect pitch). Louise was devoted to her family, her church, her music and her community. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA in 1956, majoring in chemistry with a minor in music and went to work as a chemist at Tennessee Eastman Company, where she met her husband, Robert L. Ammons and married in July 1958.

Louise started her career as an organist at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in 1964, where she was still working. She was a longtime member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, a former president of the Kingsport Junior League, a member of the Ridgefields Garden Club, the Music Club and Agnes Scott Alumni Association. Louise loved to watch her grandchildren play soccer. She enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid collegiate sports fan. Louise had a generous heart and loved to do for others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ammons.

Louise is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. Turner and husband, Mike of Spring, TX; son, Lewis W. Ammons of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, John Robert Turner and Rachael Turner; sister, Nan Canfield and husband, Dale of Chatham, NJ; niece, Eloise Canfield; and nephew, Doug Canfield.

A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20th at 1:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Green, Rev. Jack P. Weikel and Dr. Wm. Randall Frye officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
