Lowell Vicars

Lowell Vicars, 72, Kingsport, passed away while surrounded by his family Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Fort Blackmore, VA, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. Lowell was a 1958 graduate of Lynn View High School and had attended East Tennessee State University. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2002 following 45 years of service.

Lowell was a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the North Kingsport Volunteer Fire Department and various other community organizations. Lowell will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, dad, papaw, brother, uncle, friend and mentor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Vicars; daughter, Jennifer Vicars; granddaughter, Taylor Hodges; parents, Kyle and Edna Vicars; brother, James H. Vicars, and brother-in-law, Cleve Alvis.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Hodges and husband Tim of Kingsport; sons, Chris Vicars and wife Brooke of Church Hill and Darin Vicars and wife Tonya of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Jamey Vicars, Kyle Mounger, Caleb Hodges, Mikayleigh Mounger and Kinzee Mounger; one sister, Shelby Smith and husband Lee of Jonesborough; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins; and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church and at other times at the home of Chris and Brooke Vicars. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr., Rev. Bill Porter, and Rev. Roy Fowler officiating. Music will be provided by Kim Amos, Dick Blaney, Cynthia Berry, Judy Dean, and Tony Dingus.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those attending the graveside service are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:45 p.m.
