Lucille Hammonds May, 77, went to her long-awaited home Friday, October 17, 2008, after an extended illness.
She was a resident of the Kingsport area most of her life. Her greatest enjoyment in life was going to church with family and friends to worship the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mrs. May was preceded in death by her husband, Colman May; her parents, Nelce and Mary Hammonds; a sister, Juanita Gertrude Barnes; brothers, Donald and Charles Hammonds; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose Christian.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Teresa Copas and husband Mike where she spent the last three months of her life receiving the tender loving care she so freely gave unto others throughout her own life, Clara Neff, and Claudia Gail Bellamy, all of Kingsport; a sister, Jeanette Blalock and husband Vaughn; two brothers, Rev. Eugene Hammonds and wife Phyllis and Curt Hammonds all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Tina Graham, Crystal Smith, Tenida Dunn, Celena Jenkins; honorary granddaughter, Amy Maynor; great-grandchildren, Brittany Graham and Justin Page; several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and a special niece, Sheila Lane and husband Hoyt who through the years helped the family care for Lucille Sheila was affectionately referred to as "my fourth daughter".
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Thacker officiating. Mary Ann Banks-Williams will provide the singing.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
