Fall Branch – Wanda “Lucille” Kilday Mitchell of Fall Branch went home to be with the Lord on January 28th at The Wexford House following a period of declining health.
She was born February 15, 1926 in the community of Lost Mountain, in Greene County TN. She graduated from Baileyton High School where she loved playing basketball.
Lucille lived a gentle and virtuous life. She was blessed to have traveled to many places throughout her life and never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband L. M. (Johnny) Mitchell, and her parents Charlie and Christina (Doty) Kilday, brother-in-law Paul Jones, niece Sharon Hall and infant sister Helen Ruth Kilday.
Lucille was a member of Fall Branch United Methodist Church and loved singing in the choir as long as she was able. She was also a member and past Worthy Matron of the former Washington Chapter # 57 Order of Eastern Star and a Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Moody and husband George, son Johnny Charles Mitchell and wife Veda, granddaughter Nikki Joyce, twin granddaughters Andrea and Heather Moody, and great grandson D. J. Joyce. She is also survived by her dear sister Norma Jones as well as a special niece Debbie Craft (Ryland), great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as several cousins, and a wonderful neighbor of 60 years, Juanita Sams. She also had two very special care-givers Donna Byington and Jennifer Simpson who were with her for over nine years. Other special ladies that cared for her were Trula Cox, Tiffany Castle, Missy Young, and Ruby Jackson.
The family also wishes to thank the caring staff at The Wexford House, especially those on the 200 hall for Lucille’s wonderful care.
The Memorial Service will be at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2nd, with Pastor’s Barry Lane and David Tully officiating.
Graveside services will follow at the New Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Greene County. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
