Lula Mae Grubb Freeman, 87, of Kingsport passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Abingdon, VA and had resided in Kingsport since 1945. She was a graduate of Greendale High School in Abingdon and a graduate of Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing in Chattanooga, TN. She had worked as an RN at Tennessee Eastman Company for 10 years. She was a long-time member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church and a member of the Faithful Friends Sunday School class and had served on many church committees.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Freeman; parents, C.W.C. Grubb and Benona Crenshaw Grubb; 2 sisters, Eva Belle Logan and Reba Grubb; 4 brothers, W. H. Grubb, Wilson Grubb, Andrew Grubb and George Grubb.
She is survived by her daughter: Nancy Freeman, Nashville TN; son: Mike Freeman and wife Susa, McKinney, TX; sister, Katherine Davenport and husband, Jack of Kingsport; brothers, Roy Grubb and wife, Rosa Lee and Gilbert Grubb both of Abingdon, Ernest Grubb and wife, Carolyn, Bristol TN; sister-in-law, Edith Grubb, Seymour TN; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 14 from 1-2 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr. officiating.
Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.
