Luther H. "Smokey" Bruner, 87, of Baileyton, TN, formally of Fall Branch, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, August 22, 2010 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Smokey was born in Scott County, Virginia and resided in Speers Ferry until moving to Fall Branch in 1955. He had lived in Baileyton since 1996. He enjoyed whittling cedar wood and making walking canes that he shared with his many friends. He attended Gospel Mission Church as long as his health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Price Bruner in 1971; daughter, Janice Bruner Counts in 2006; brothers, John Bruner, Perry Bruner, and James M. "Red" Bruner Sr.; sisters, Mary Catron, Thelma Hudson, Lucinda Jones, and Callie Bruner.
Survivors include his son, Wayne Bruner of Fall Branch; daughter, Nina Bruner Trivette of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Scott Bruner, Katie Counts, and Meagan Powers Allen; great-granddaughter, Abby Counts; sister, Stella Kate Cody of Peoria, IL; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lewis Meade and Bro. Dan Dolen officiating. Honorary minister will be Rev. Orville Dolen. Music will be provided by Roy Dolen.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fall Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Virgil Arnold, Ron Dolen, Donald Morelock, Jim Bruner, Ronnie Bruner, and Scott White. Honorary pallbearer will be Danny Painter.
