Luther "L.J." Minton Jr

Luther, "L.J." Minton, Jr., 86, Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.

He worked at AFG Industries for 23 ½ years. He enjoyed fishing, family, and friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

L.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Martha Minton; sisters, Gladys and Thelma; and his brother, Will.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith; sons, Ronnie Minton and Gary Minton; daughter, Tammy Alley; grandchildren, Lorie Gaskins, Angela Grimsley, Lisa Aiken, Brandon Minton, Kendra Minton, Jessica Alley, and Collin Alley; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Beverly "Bev" Harrison and family and Dr. Carroll and staff.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Buddy Eugene Edwards officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the family home after the service.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Back, Adam Back, Jacob Franklin, Brandon Minton, William Kaywood, and Scooter Eidson.
