Luther Ernest Olinger, 89, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Maces Springs near Hiltons Virginia to the late John Olinger and Myrtle Castle Olinger. Mr. Olinger married Beulah Grace Barker in 1939 and together they moved to Kingsport, where they resided for the remainder of their lives.
Mr. Olinger was a foreman and skilled carpenter for Lyle Construction Company for 21 years, retiring in 1980. He farmed all his life and also enjoyed gardening.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 65 years, Beulah Grace Barker Olinger. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Olinger and Albert Olinger.
Surviving are three sons, Ray Olinger and wife Mary of Gray, TN, Jerry Olinger of Manchester, OH, and Glenn Olinger and Jeane Fortner of Hampton, TN; one granddaughter, Lisa Stidham and husband Eric of Little River, SC; one great-granddaughter, Abby Grace Stidham of Little River, SC; one great-grandson, Nathan Chase Stidham of Little River, SC; one brother John "J.D." Olinger and wife Jane of Kingsport; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and longtime friend, Mr. J. W. Larkin.
Calling hours are from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
