Lynn G. Deakins, 68, of Kingsport, died Thursday night, August 28, 2008 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Johnson City, Lynn was raised in Kingsport, graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1958, and attended Tennessee Technological University. Lynn retired from Quebecor in 1999 after 34 years of service. He was an avid golfer.
Lynn was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ella S. Deakins of the home; son, Andrew "Drew" T. Deakins and wife Laura, Kingsport; stepson, Tim Bishop and wife Rebecca, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Christian, Jordan, and Taylor; and several special cousins.
The family would like to thank Jerry and Reba Murrell, John and Joyce Branam, Ernestine and Adam Renfro, Ellen Hastie, Jean and David Carter, Wellmont Hospice House, and Dr. McElroy and his staff for all their care.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Murrell, John Branam, Lewis Holland, Doug Weigel, the Class of 1958 of Dobyns-Bennett High School, and members of the Armadillo Club.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. David A. Cagle and Rev. L. Craig Foster officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church.
