Lynn Richard Johnson, 65, of Fall Branch, TN, went home to be with his Lord on February 14, 2015, at his home with his family. He was born in Charleston, SC and lived all his life in Greensboro, NC. Lynn worked for Pete Wall Plumbing in NC for 8 years before losing his right leg. He moved to Fall Branch, TN in 1999 where he made his home. Lynn loved and served the Lord with all his heart. When his health permitted he attended church as much as he could. Lynn served his country in the United States Army and is a Vietnam Veteran as well as a Purple Heart recipient.
He was an avid dirt track racer and raced his own car till 1973. He had a tragic accident at Rainbow Speedway that cost him his right leg and he never was able to race again. Lynn then called upon his friend Larry Routh to drive his car who went on to win races. He coached fast pitch softball for 5 years and was an avid fisherman. Lynn loved all types of racing including NASCAR. His favorite driver was Jimmie Johnson, #48.
Lynn was a loving, caring, husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He has 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Lankford Johnson; mother, Lila Mae Jarman Medley; step-dad, Carl Medley; brothers, Terry Lee Johnson and Gene Lankford Johnson, aka Cris A. Gilbert; and sister, Sandra Ellea Johnson Hancock Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patricia Parrish Johnson of the home; two sons, Richard Matthew Johnson and wife, Marie of Thomasville, NC, and Mark Lynn Johnson and wife, Angela of Brown Summit, NC; three daughters, Tammy Johnson Fryar of Gibsonville, NC, Tracy Johnson Nettles and husband, Patrick of Reidsville, NC, and Connie Whaley and husband, Larry of Greensboro, NC; sister, Lila Deloise Townsend Patterson and husband, David of Gretna, VA; brother, Claude Nathan Townsend of Reidsville, NC; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rev. Ronnie Baxter and son, Isaiah, Brian and Mandy Gregg, Scott Clark and Kristie Rowland, and his friend he met through Net Trans "Mr. James Johnson."
The family would like to thank the James H. Quillen Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN, the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Kingsport, TN, and the Trans Rural Transportation for their love and care of our loved ones.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Ronnie Baxter officiating.
A graveside service will be held in Greensboro, NC at a later date.
