Mabel Broome, 95 of Kingsport passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. She was born on September 25, 1915 in Kingsport, TN. She was raised in Kingsport and spent most of her life there.
Mabel was the daughter of Sidney and Della Patton. She married Ralph W. Broome in 1934. They had four children, Barbara Brown-Allen, wife of Glenn T. Allen, residents of Long Beach, CA; Ralph William Broome, Jr. Bill-deceased; Jon E. Broome, husband of Brenda Broome, residents of Sevierville, TN; and Jane B. Alexander, wife of Jene Alexander, residents of Huntington Beach, CA. Mabel Broome was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport until she moved to Huntington Beach, CA in 1999. She then became a member of St. Peter's By-the-Sea Presbyterian Church in Huntington Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Broome; son, Bill Broome; sister, Gladys Baker; brother, John Patton and her parents.
In addition to her three living children: Barbara, Jon and Janie, Mabel is survived by fifteen grandchildren, Mitch Brown, Melissa Schmitt, Marti Brown of southern CA, Mike Brown of WV, Todd Broome of San Francisco, CA, Jenny Plamondon and Timmy Broome of Tampa, FL, Greg White of NJ, Jennifer Younger of Sevierville, TN, Gina Broome of Las Vegas, NV, Sam Broome of TN, Kate Dahlstrand of FL, Becky Broome of CA, Karen Callahan of Henderson, NV and Travis Alexander of Bend, Oregon. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
