Mack Quillen

Mack Quillen, aged 94, went to be with the Lord the morning of Wednesday, February 27, 2019. He was born in Church Hill, TN on July 27, 1924, the son of the late George Patton Quillen and the late Bertha Simpson Quillen. He resided in Colonial Heights most of his adult life until moving to Augusta, GA seven years ago to live with his daughter. Following 43 years of service, he retired from Eastman Kodak in 1986. A charter member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, he served in many roles over the years but will be best remembered as a greeter—the first face you saw when you came to church. He was a veteran of World War II, a survivor of the Leopoldville naval disaster, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the 66th Infantry Division of the Army. He was a member of the Clay Masonic Lodge in Church Hill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Louise Jackson, by his sister Frances Barrett, his brother Joe Quillen, and three infant brothers.

He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Diann Quillen Chew and husband David of Augusta, GA; three grandsons, Matthew David Chew and wife Marianne Schunemann Chew of Snellville GA, John Patton Chew of Kalamazoo MI, and Theodore Tillman Chew of Augusta; three great grandchildren, Margaret “Maggie” Quillen Chew, Benjamin Conner Chew, and Henry Collins Chew; and two brothers, the Reverend John Maurice Quillen and wife Rena and Charles Wayne Quillen and wife Barbara.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. A masonic funeral service will follow with the Masonic Rites performed by Clay Lodge #386 and Reverend Greg Burton officiating. The graveside service will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.

Pallbearers will be: nephews Jonathan Quillen, Johannes Quillen, Steve Barrett, and Mike Quillen; friend Brian Sanders; and grandsons Matthew Chew, John Chew, and Ted Chew.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 108 Colonial Heights Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663.
