Madalyn S. Martin, 88, of Powell, TN passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 4, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She raised her family in Kingsport and then moved to Atlanta to continue her career with J. C. Penney. At her retirement, she was the manager of the catalog division of J. C. Penney Company for the southeastern United States.
After retirement, Madalyn moved to Powell, TN to be near her daughter, Barbara Bobbi Lee. Her passion in retirement was her artwork. She became a very accomplished and prolific artist, choosing water colors as her favorite medium. She was an active member of the Fountain City Art Guild. Madalyn also enjoyed the game of golf and played regularly until age 85.
She was a member Powell United Methodist Church.
Madalyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lula Smith; sisters, Nellie Prince and Nette Smith; and her husband, James L. Martin.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Lee of Powell; her son, Dr. Timothy Martin and wife Linda of Kingsport; grandchildren, Beth Lee and Holly Lee of Powell, Andrew Martin and wife, Allison, Murfreesboro, Dr. Kevin Martin and wife, Amanda of Kingsport; and Lindsay Martin, Graham, NC. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Lexie and Brooke Martin, Murfreesboro, and Jackson and Cooper Martin, Kingsport.
Friends and family are welcome at the graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Garden of Gethsemane at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport and at the Memorial Service celebrating our mother?s life at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Powell United Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Saint Mary?s Residential Hospice in Knoxville for the very kind and gentle way they cared for our mother.
