Mahala Catherine Johnson Cox

Mahala Catherine Johnson Cox, 90, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, on October 15, 2015. Born on December 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Jane Johnson. Mahala retired from JP Stevens, formally, Borden Mills after 35 years of service. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed reading. She was a lifelong member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Eidson, TN, but worshiped in her latter years at Bays Mountain Baptist Church. Mahala was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Cox and several brothers and sisters.

Mahala is survived by her son, Rodger Johnson and wife Pam of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Michael Murphy of Portland, Oregon and Megan Johnson McCarty and husband Josh; one great grandson, Mason Lee Johnson, all of Kingsport; one brother, Homer Johnson of Surgoinsville; three sisters, Ivadell Hayes and Doris Davis, both of Surgoinsville, Hazel Necessary of Elkton, Maryland; and many Nieces and Nephews.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, October 18, 2015, 5-7:00pm, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, with services immediately following. A graveside service will held, Monday, October 19, 2015, 11:00am, at East Tennessee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bays Mountain Baptist Church, Children's Fund, 2000 Meadowview Pkwy, Kingsport, TN 37660
