Marcine Hawks Berry, 95 years young, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024 at The Waters of Kingsport (formally Asbury).
She was born in Virginia in 1929 and moved to Kingsport in 1941. Marcine was a proud graduate of the Dobyns-Bennett High School class of 1947, and she married her next-door neighbor, Alex Berry, in 1949. Marcine worked at Tennessee Eastman Company in the Planning and Estimating Department of Engineering for six years until she became a stay-at-home Mom after her first son was born. Marcine was an active member of several PTA groups, Kingsport Garden Club, Methodist United Women and various Church committees at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was a devoted and wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Marcine was an avid reader and dedicated sports fan (especially UT sports). Her life was devoted to raising her family, helping others and being an example of humility and positivity. Special recognition, appreciation and thanks to the Asbury and The Waters of Kingsport communities which Marcine was a part of for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister (Patsy Phipps) and her husband, Alex Berry. Surviving are two sons, Jeff Berry and special friend Judi Wood of Kingsport, Mike Berry and wife Nancy of Johnson City. Also surviving are granddaughters Julie Berry Thomas (Charles) of Franklin, Tennessee and Leslie Berry Steele (Brent) of Asheville, North Carolina. Marcine’s life was blessed with four great-grandchildren (Eva, Caroline, Abbie and Jack). She will be dearly missed, but not forgotten.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 3:00pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Randy Frye officiating. The family will receive friends following funeral services in the church fellowship hall.
