Margaret Chilcote

Margaret Chilcote, 89, of Kingsport, died Friday, October 10, 2008 after a 5 year battle with Alzheimer's.

Born May 13, 1919 in Sistersville, West Virginia, the first-born daughter of the late, Martha and Henry Mossor, Margaret spent her childhood and early days in Philadelphia, PA before meeting the love of her life, Thomas F. Chilcote. They were married September 18, 1943 in Dayton, PA. She served alongside Tom as he pastored churches throughout the Pittsburg and Holston Conferences of the United Methodist Church. Margaret also served as the "First Lady" of Emory & Henry College from 1973 to 1984.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that she met.

Her son, Wayne L. Chilcote; two sisters, Jean Allen and Dolores Barricklow; and one brother, Fred Mossor preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Dr. Thomas F. Chilcote, Jr. of Kingsport; one daughter, Debbie Dougherty Wallace and husband James "Bud" of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Deborah Crawford and husband George of Knoxville, Emma Jane Chilcote and Hannah Elizabeth Chilcote, both of Charleston, SC; daughter-in-love, Bernadette Chilcote of Charleston, SC; one brother, Richard Mossor of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Preston Place II for the love and care they have given Margaret during the past five years.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 8 p.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Jack P. Weikel and Rev. Charles Maynard officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday morning at Emory Holston Conference Cemetery in Emory, VA.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Northeast TN & Southwest VA, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 500, Johnson City, TN 37604; or to the church or charity of one's choice.
