Margaret Nell "Margo" Hoard Benton

Margaret Nell "Margo" Hoard Benton, 92, of Kingsport died August 7, 2018. She was born in Rogersville, TN on July 11, 1926; the daughter of the late Nelson Roseberry Hoard and Fannie Kyle Hoard. She lived in Philadelphia, Pa and Chicago, IL for many years before returning to Kingsport in 1985. While in Chicago she worked as a wire technician and at the Kingsport Public Library after returning to Tennessee. Mrs. Benton was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church in Kingsport where she was a member of the Willing Workers Club and District Director of Christian Education of Youth for the Bristol District. She was involved with the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, Inc., Boys Club of Greater Kingsport, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

"Margo" was an artist, poet, writer, and avid reader. She loved to laugh and would often do or say something to make others laugh. She cherished her family and could recall the names and information about nieces and nephews whom she had not seen in many years. "Margo" was always willing to lend a helping hand and support others.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Benton; grandson, Alexander Benton; eight sisters; five brothers; and two half-sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gerald Benton (Joaquina Romero); granddaughter, Cierra Benton; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Interment will follow at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Cemetery.
