Margaret “Peg” King Norris, 86, of Kingsport died on February 5, 2020 in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Kingsport, TN on May 8, 1933 and was the daughter of the late E. Ward King and Myrtle Charlton King. She graduated from Salem Academy and graduated from Mount Vernon College.
A native of Kingsport and resident for 86 years, she loved her community. In business, Margaret served on the Board of Directors of Mason & Dixon Lines, Inc. and Crown Enterprises, Inc. She was Vice President of Crown Enterprises, working as the Project Manager and Sales Director in the development of Crown Colony where she served on many committees throughout her residence of 40 years. She served as President of the Royal Corporation, a real estate development and rental company.
In her community activities she served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Junior League of Kingsport where she received the Sustainer Award and Chaired the first sustainer fund raiser - The Christmas Tour of Homes. She served on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club where she helped develop their first library. She served on the Board of Directors of Netherland Inn, Board of Directors for the Arts Council, President of the Little House & Garden Club and President of the Kingsport Book Club. At First Presbyterian Church she was a deacon and served on the Endowment Committee. Recently, she was honored as one of the top 100 community women leaders of Kingsport.
As an active alumnae of Salem Academy she served on the Board of Trustees, the Salem Academy Alumni Board, and member of the Academy Task Force. She was honored as Alumnae of the Year in 1991.
She loved playing tennis, reading, going to movies, handwork, travel and visiting Hilton Head Island with all of her family and friends. She was a caretaker to many friends and was always ready to pitch in to help someone in need. She was a supportive daughter, wife, mom and grandmother.
On August 30, 1954 she married the late Edwin O. Norris, Jr. who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Ann Norris of Los Angeles, CA and Laura Norris Robinson and son-in-law Andrew David Robinson of Cary, NC and son Edwin Ward Norris and daughter-in-law Stephanie Wilson Norris of Charlotte, NC. She has four grandsons: Neal Charlton Robinson and son-in-law Jeremy Austin DiGorio, Christopher Andrew Robinson, Tanner Wellington Norris and Jackson Alexander Norris. She is the sister of the late E. William “Bill” King and the late John R. “Jack” King. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service will be conducted at Oak Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 with Dr. William M. Shelton and Rev. Sharon Amstutz officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: First Presbyterian Church, 100 W.
