Margaret "Peg" Owen, 74, of Kingsport, TN, passed away in her home, surrounded by family, Saturday, May 26, 2012.
Born and raised in North Warren, PA, Margaret left there to pursue a nursing degree. She graduated from Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, PA, as a Registered Nurse. There she met her future husband, Dr. Richard Owen. They married in September 1958.
Margaret left her nursing career to raise their three sons. The family lived in Cleveland, OH, and Greeley, CO, before moving to Kingsport, TN in 1966.
She was active in the community, and an active member of the First Broad Street United Methodist Church of Kingsport, TN. At her church she was a member of the Parish Nurse team, the e-mail Prayer Chain, the Furniture Ministry, the Alter Guild, and the United Methodist Women Organization. She and her husband were active members of the choir, the John's Island Ministry, and were instrumental in the establishment of the Carpenter's Helpers Ministry in 1986.
Margaret had a life-long interest in history and was a long-time member of The Questers organization. She was also a long-time volunteer for the Meals-On-Wheels Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Richard Owen, and parents, Theodore and Dorothy Peterson of North Warren, PA.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Judy Zastawney of Erie, PA, her three sons; Mark and wife, Joanne of Boston, MA, Michael of Englewood, CO, Chris and wife, Sarah of Maryville, TN, and granddaughters, Sarah, Leila, Shauna, and Jessica.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 29th at 2:00 pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
