Margaret Scott Phlegar

Margaret Scott Phlegar peacefully departed from life on Sunday, February 22, 2015 with her family present at her bedside. She was born on September 18, 1918 to John Milton and Roxanna May Scott at Washington College, Tennessee.

She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In the early years of WWII, she married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Lancaster Phlegar. Following employment at Tennessee Eastman Corporation in Kingsport, she taught school at Washington College where her father had been a professor of Latin. She later worked with her husband to establish his business, Tri City Diaper Service. The remainder of her life was devoted to home and family.

The majority of her life was spent in Kingsport, Tennessee where she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, DAR and other organizations and clubs. She had many friends, loved her home and enjoyed traveling and gardening. Following the death of her husband "Pete," she ultimately moved to Signal Mountain, Tennessee to be closer to family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Phlegar; sisters, Mary Louise Scott Morris of Washington, D.C., Annabel Scott Black of Johnson City, Tennessee; and daughter, Barbara Phlegar Jonakin of Salem, Virginia.

She is survived by her son, Robert F. Phlegar and wife Harriet; granddaughter, Ashley Phlegar Henry and husband Clif; great-grandchildren, Kate and Hudson Henry; sister, Sara Scott Williams of Birmingham, Michigan; and sister-in-law and friend, Jo Ann Phlegar of Kingsport, Tennessee.

There will be a private family graveside service at New Bethel Presbyterian Church, Piney Flats, Tennessee.
