Margaret ?Greer? Smith, 88, Limestone, passed away around midnight Saturday October 6, 2007 at Life Care Center of Gray, TN. She has gone to be with her Lord and Master, whom she was faithful to all of her life.

Born June 28, 1919, in Surgoinsville, she was the daughter of Wiley and Myrtle Arnold Greer.

Margaret spent her life helping anyone in need of care and friendship and worked in homes with children. Margaret cut her education short to help with her grandparents and work on the farm. In the 1940?s, she worked at Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, but quit when her mother became ill after the birth of her brother, Jimmy. Margaret helped raise him for many years. In 1954, she and her mother built Greer?s Grocery on Hwy 11W where she worked for many years.

In 1971, Margaret married Wayne Smith and moved to Ellensburg, WA. She and her husband owned a small ranch where she loved working in the fields and raising cattle and horses. Margaret had many fond memories working along side her husband on the ranch. She also cared for her mother there for many years.

After declining health, Margaret moved back to TN in May of 2004 where she made her home with her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Paula Greer. She remained there until August 2007, but after a fall and more sickness, she went to Life Care Center.

Margaret loved going to church, reading the Bible, and listening to Gospel music, especially ?The Gaithers?.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Smith; parents, Wiley and Myrtle Greer; brothers, Frank Greer and W. A. ?Alonzo? Greer; and an infant nephew.

Surviving are brother, Jimmy Greer and wife, Paula, Limestone, TN; step-daughter, Donna Laybourne and husband, Roger, Tacoma, WA; step-son, Larry Smith and wife, Elaine, WA; three step-grandsons; a special step-granddaughter, Jennifer Laybourne, all of WA; two special nephews, Roger Greer and wife, Nancy, and Ronnie Greer, Kingsport; two special nieces; Judy Rogers and Joyce McClellan; two step-nieces, Tammy Castle and Kim Compton; four ?buddies?, Jessica, Kaycie and Taylor Hunter, and Devon Castle; special pet and companion, Maggie; many cousins; and a host of friends. Margaret had too many friends in Ellensburg, WA to name. There were also special friends Charlotte ?Charlie? Wilson and Sandy and Don Pless, who were close friends and caregivers for many years.

The family extends many thanks to the caring staff of Life Care Center of Gray, Specialty Home Care Center owner, Nikki Massengill, and her faithful caregiver, Janice Haas, whom Margaret really loved.
