Margie Slemp Andes passed away Friday, January 29th, 2016 at her home after an extended illness. She was born May 27th, 1929 in Farraday, Kentucky. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Margie and Dr. G.D. Andes were married for 62 years. They moved to Kingsport in 1952. She was a member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; A.C. and Frona Slemp; husband Dr. G.D. Andes; sister, Laura Lee McCormick; and brother, Sidney Slemp.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Gary Andes and wife, Andrea of Kingsport; daughter, Terri Rice and husband, Frank of Kingsport; twin sister, Betty Kamber and husband, Bob of Kingsport; grandchildren, Ashley Andes Cooper and husband, Devlin of Macon, GA, Alexander Andes of Kingsport, Dean and Caroline Rice of Kingsport; and great-grandson, Jude Rice.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at 5 p.m. Monday, February 1st at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church with Dr. Angus Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waverly Road Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, 415 Waverly Road, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to Meals on Wheels Kingsport.
Special thanks to her caregivers, Josie Jackson and Jennifer Ford, for the excellent care given to Margie. Also, a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice workers, Joanie and Lois, for the care that they gave during this time.
