Marie B. Archer, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2012. She was born May 9, 1934 in Memphis, TN and moved to Kingsport after marriage. Marie attended Treadwell High School and Memphis State University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority, continuing her education at East Tennessee State University after moving to Kingsport.
Marie retired from University Physicians as Office Manager after 20 years. She was previously a member of the Kingsport Junior League, Japanese Karate Organization, Johnson City Square Dance and International Graphoanalysis Society as a certified graphoanalyst. She performed volunteer work at numerous places, including the Crisis Center, Girls' Club, Long Island Kindergarten, Contact Concern and Holston Valley Medical Center, where she served as committee chairman of Holston Valley Auxiliary for six of the many years she volunteered there. She was a member of Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church where she served on the Pastoral Care committee and belonged to The Daughters of the King.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Fred Archer; son, Mark Waddey; parents Fred and Hattie Bolton of Memphis, TN.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen and Laura Waddey of Kingsport; cousin, Roslyn Sneed of St. Louis, MO; former husband, Walter Waddey of Knoxville; stepdaughter, Carole Harris of Shallotte, NC; two granddaughters, Allison Williams and husband Rick of Shallotte, NC, and Kathryn Diallo and husband Ibou of Brooklyn, NC; four great-grand children, Morgan and Mackenzie Williams of Shallotte, NC, and Sylla and Haiz Diallo of Brooklyn, NY; and godchildren, Shellie Templeton and Kellie Corder of Kingsport.
Marie loved life and the living of it and the giving of herself to others. Her variety of interests was broad. She loved to travel and explore new places, people and cultures and has always had a deep love for the Lord and the animals He blessed us with.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Richard Shackleford officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. For those who wish to view, you may do so at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Private graveside services will be held Monday at the Depew's Chapel Cemetery.
