Marie Elizabeth Chance

Marie Elizabeth Chance, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord at her home on 9:56 p.m. Sunday, August 28th, 2011.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, she moved to Houlton, Maine early in her life. She was a graduate of Russell Sage School of Nursing and then went on to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where she received her nurse anesthetist degree. She met her husband of 39 years, Dr. Donald Chance, while at the Mayo Clinic. They made their home in Kingsport in 1957. Her life was her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a dedicated Christian, enjoyed writing poetry, playing the piano and was known for her baking, especially her pastries. She was known affectionately by her friends far and wide as "Grammie".

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Donald Chance.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Libby Krell and husband Carl of Kingsport, TN, Margaret Heard and husband George of Columbia, TN; son, Don Chance II of Maryville, TN; eleven grandchildren, Marie March and husband Jared, Maggie Moore, Charles Krell, Sarah Kieffer and husband Patrick, Holly Heard, Mary Heard, John Heard, Paul Heard, James Heard, Donald Chance III and Samuel Chance: two great-grandchildren, Jack March and Joseph March.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1, 2011 between 5-7:00 pm. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport and anytime at 3709 Hemlock Park Drive. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Hamlett-Dobson chapel, Rev. Jim Gray and Rev. Mark Knisley officiating.

Graveside services will be on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chance Family Cemetery in Rose Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons and sons-in-law, Charles Krell, Donald Chance III, John Heard, Paul Heard, James Heard, Jack March, Samuel Chance, Joseph March, Carl Krell, George Heard, Jared March and Patrick Kieffer. Honorary Pallbearers are Jessica Buchanan, her friend and beautician at Posh Salon, special caregivers, Loretta and Shelby and Kay Bone, her primary care provider.
