Marie Epperson Brooks

Marie Epperson Brooks, 82, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Thursday morning November 19, 2015, at her home following a lengthy illness. Born in Scott County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Blanche Epperson. She was also a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alvin Brooks.

Marie was instrumental in establishing the Kingsport Diabetes Association and worked tirelessly helping to provide a support group and educate others in diabetes treatment and management, especially young diabetics.

Surviving are her daughter, Deb Moody and husband, Glen of Kingsport; son, Bill Brooks and wife, Vikki of Seneca, SC; four grandchildren, Joshua Moody of Kingsport, Melody Thortis and husband Shaun of Brandon, MS, and Ben and Bethany Palmer of East Flat Rock, NC; one great grandson, Griffin Moody of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Estle Adams and husband Raymond of Knoxville; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and three very special friends, Serena Stewart, Nell Ratliff, and Ellen Roberts.

She was tenderly cared for by Lizzie Duffy, Edith Franklin, and Belva Hutson for many years. The family is very grateful for their loyal support that allowed Marie to remain at home during her extended illness.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, November 21, from 11-12:00pm, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be held at 12:00pm in the funeral home chapel with the Dr. Roy Graves officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at Holston View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsport Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 3952, Kingsport, TN 37664.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
