Marie Pitts Schulken

Marie P. Schulken, 92, of Kingsport, died Monday morning, April 7, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Florence, AL, where she was raised, and graduated valedictorian of her class at Coffee High School and attended Auburn University. After she moved to Kingsport in the mid 1940's Marie became the first president of the Junior League of Kingsport. She was a homemaker and active member of First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roger M. Schulken, Jr. and twin brother, Charles R. Pitts.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Jean S. Harley and husband, Larry of Abingdon, VA; son, Roger M. Schulken, III and wife, Cyndi of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Elise, Jeremiah, Anne Kathryn, Austin, Jeanie, Beth and Gene; and great-grandchildren, Dominic, Elle, Stone, Cleo, Mario, Ethan and Alex.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 12:30 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle and The Rev. Sharon Amstutz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
