Marjorie Dawson

Marjorie Elizabeth Steadman Dawson, a life-long resident of Fall Branch, passed away April 1, 2016, at the age of 86, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born February 16, 1930 to Fred and Mae Strickler Steadman, and was their third child and last living child. Marjorie attended school at Alleghanny, Fall Branch, and was a 1949 graduate from Sullivan High School. She worked at Parks Belk, Kingsport Press, and Nettie Lee. Marjorie enjoyed sewing, canning vegetables from her garden, growing beautiful flowers, and traveling. She was a member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jo Hulse and Maylene Britt; five brothers, Hal, J. Fred, George, Maynard, and Lyndale Steadman.

Marjorie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Charlie Dawson; her daughter, Mitzi Cox and husband Darrell; son, Alan Dawson and wife Lynda; three grandchildren, Brandon Cox, Andy Cox and wife Stephanie, and Lyndsay Dawson Mynatt and husband Jordan; one great-grandson, Brady Cox; four sisters-in-law, Phyllis White, Ruth Nave, Kay Steadman, and Linda Steadman; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson, Fall Branch Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Bethesda Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Hunter and staff; and her loving caregivers over the past six years, Sue, Irene, Ada, Kathy, and Georgia.
