Marjorie Faw Reed, 93, Kingsport, TN, died Monday, December 18, 2006, after a brief illness.
Born in Elkin, NC, she was a graduate of Guilford College and Hartford Theological Seminary. She taught at Colby College in Maine and later was director of the Wesley Foundation at Washington State College in Pullman, Washington.
During World War II she worked with the American Red Cross and met her first husband, John Edward Nicholson. She was widowed shortly after her marriage. Marjorie came to Kingsport and taught Bible in many of the area schools. In the summer of 1958 she married H. Grady Reed. Upon Grady?s retirement, she and Grady made numerous mission trips throughout this country and the world.
Mrs. Reed was a member of First Baptist Church. She was very involved in the life and work of the church serving as an adult Sunday school teacher, leadership roles in Baptist Women and as a G. A. leader. Her life was committed to glorifying God.
Surviving are her husband, H. Grady Reed, Kingsport, TN; daughter, Jane Reed Sherman, Tappan, NY; three sons, Don Reed and wife Suzanne, Greenville, SC; Robert Reed and wife Janie, Kingsport, TN; and Mark Reed and wife Kimey, Atlanta, GA; nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; stepmother, Frances Faw, Hickory, NC; two stepbrothers, Terry Settlemyre, Hickory, NC; and John Settlemyre, Burlington, NC; sister-in-law, Jessie Faw, Elkin, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 7:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Asbury Place, Kingsport, Baysmont Campus and immediately following the memorial service at the church.
A family graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.
